Definition of Record Sets
The YMCA winter league defines an athlete's age for the winter season by what ever the athlete's age is as of December
1st of that season. During the summer YMCA season and at USA Swimming meets the persons age is defined as the age they
are as of the first day of the meet. That is why some records are labeled YMCA, meaning December 1st, and others as Date
of Birth.
There are also three different types of pools we swim in.:
- Short Course Yards (SCY) is a 25 yard pool like ours and most of the pools in our state.
- Short Course Meters (SCM) is a 25 meter pool. There is only one YMCA in Maine that has a meter pool and that
is Boothbay. Other SCM pools in Maine are Riverton Pool in Portland, the South Portland Municipal Pool and the
outdoor pool in Waterville.
- Long Course Meters (LCM) is a 50 meter pool; this is known as Olympic size. There are no 50 meter pools in our state.
Hopefully someday we can change that and maybe it will be here! The closest 50 meter pool is the Jenny Thompson Pool
in Dover, NH. And there are many in Massachusetts. The Summer Maine USA Swimming Championships are held in a 50 meter
pool in St.John, NB, CA.
Because of these different rules and pool types there are different sets of records. This just makes more records to
go out and break! GO GET EM! Follow the links below to view cirrent records.
