Our Camp Philosophy
Our goal at the Casco Bay YMCA is to provide a caring, safe and fun atmosphere that allows campers to experience a variety of activities,
to try new things, and to challenge themselves. Teamwork and the Y's Character Development Traits of Caring, Honesty, Respect and
Responsibility play an important role in all of our programs and are incorporated into all aspects of camp.

Camp Osprey Details
Camp Osprey
The Casco Bay YMCA's Camp Osprey, a Maine State licensed day camp, offers a diverse, age appropriate experience in a safe and fun outdoor environment.
Campers enjoy the Y's two swimming pools, open-air gymnasium and play ground, as well as its 25 acres of woods and trails. Each day will have a character
block session in which we will work on the 4 core values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Each week of camp will also have its
own theme, keeping campers engaged and having fun. All campers will enjoy diverse field trips. And for teens, the Y offers a teen leadership program.
Herons & Egrets
Camp Osprey is designed to accommodate the most suitable activities for ourcampers' developmental stages. We have separated our camp into
two agegroups; the Herons (5-8) and the Egrets (9-12). All campers will share thesame program, meeting and lunch space. Herons and Egrets
will participate ingroup specific games/activities in addition to camp-wide events throughoutthe day. We have organized our camp with
safety and developmentalappropriateness as our highest concerns.
Extended Care
While camp hours are 9 am to 4 pm, we understand that many parents need additional care for their children. Extended care runs from 7:30
to 9 am and 4 to 5:30 pm, at no cost.
Teen Leadership Opportunities
The Leaders in Training program is a great volunteer opportunity for 13 - 16 years olds. Leaders will participate in a structured
mentorring program that will include building the skills necessary to become great leaders. LITs will work hands on with our senior
counselors to learn how to effectively work with campers in a positive way and become role models. Space is limited so please plan accordingly.
Inclusion for Children with Special Needs
The YMCA believes that all children, regardless of need, should be integrated into our programs, and will do everything in our power to make this possible.
However, there may be particular needs which our staff is not trained to handle, or that our staff to camper ratio is not adequate to serve. In such an instance,
the family or supporting agency will be asked to assist the YMCA in finding and providing an aide for the child, or, we may need to refer the child to a program
better suited to meet his or her needs. Children with special needs are welcomed to attend camp if they are within the developmental ages that we serve, and are
comfortable participating in their group's activities. Youth that require a one-on-one aide in school must be provided one at camp via family effort.
Please call if you need any assistance or have specific questions.

Welcome to Camp Osprey! Our first week of Camp will be extra special as we
investigate the trails, streams and shoreline that await just a short hike away.
Discovery awaits us as we learn about the natural surroundings right in our own
backyards! Pack your bags Campers - we have quite a hike ahead at Gray
Animal Farm!
June 23 - 27, 2008      Show Your Spirit
Get into the "spirit" as we find fun, silly ways to express ourselves this week.
Crazy hats, Mismatch day, Jersey Day and more as we compete as groups to see
who has the most spirit. We'll kick off the beach season with a trip to Reid State
Park.
June 30 - July 3, 2008      Weird Science
This week we let our little inventors and scientists learn about the world around
them through fun experiments designed to test their problem solving abilities
and challenge their creativity. What happens when things freeze? What will
float? What helps an airplane fly? All these and more will be answered though
hands on investigation. Well explore the effects of gravity and centrifugal force
at Funtown this week.
July 7 - 11, 2008      Fun With Flavor
Taste every treat you can possibly imagine - or concoct! Our little campers
become wacky chefs as they get a chance to create their own masterpieces as
we dedicate this week to all things edible. 'Too many cooks in the kitchen' takes
on a whole new meaning this week as we turn food into art and use our
creativity to re-invent the culinary arts . Messy? Delicious? Fun? Absolutely!
Campers will enjoy our field trip to Range Pond.
July 14 - 18, 2008      Camper Carnival
Get in line for the best camp in town! Games, moon-bounce rides, clowning
around, and fun! There are lots of silly times under the "Y" big top. This week we
join forces with the Portland and Pineland Y's for a trip to Otter Pond in Standish
to put on our biggest carnival yet!
July 21 - 25, 2008      YMCA Games
The Olympics come to Camp Osprey as we create our teams and represent our
chosen countries in a fun-filled week of competition. Our competitors will
participate in a parade of nations, lighting the ceremonial "torch" and culminate
the week with a medal ceremony. We'll check out other elite athletes as we go
to a Sea Dogs game this week.
July 28 - August 1, 2008      Super Soakin' Water Week
Imagine a day of fun-filled water adventures everyday - Small and Large!
Grab your towel, shades and sunscreen and we will get wet and wild. You won't
want to miss out on this fun week! Plus, we'll venture out on our wettest and
wildest field trip to Aquaboggan/Splashtown.
August 4 - 8, 2008      Hurray for Hollywood
This week we look for all our aspiring actors and actresses, directors, screenplay
writers and crew as we create our very own Camp movie. The budget is tight, the
studio is getting restless and our deadline is fast approaching. Will the movie be
released in time for the Oscar season? Only you can make it happen! We'll
check out other young performers this week at Circus Smirkus, a traveling
troupe of young people who offer a 'Cirque de Soleil' type spectacle.
August 11 - 15, 2008      Craft Mania
Calling all creative campers! This week is full of all activities that tap into our
camper's inner artists. Clay, paint, paper, all the things you don't get to make a
mess with at home will be our specialty! Our field trip to Range Pond will be the
highlight of the Herons' and Egrets' week.
August 18 - 22, 2008      Osprey's Greatest Hits
In this final week we bring back all the camper's favorites for a week dedicated
to finishing the summer in style before the school busses start making their pickups.
A summer's worth of fun packed into 5 days; don't miss this exciting
conclusion to summer at the Y. We'll end our camp season with a fun-filled trip
to Willard Beach
